Beginners start with white belts. We hold rank tests several times a year, or as students are prepared to take them. There are nine "kyu" ranks, counting from nine down to one, and nine "dan" ranks, counting from one to nine. We have formal requirements for ranks up through second dan, as shown below.
To achive each rank, and wear the corresponding belt, the student must exhibit proficiencies as shown.
Candidates at each rank remain responsible for the material required for lower ranks!
